Did you know that certification programs-like those offered by ARRT-can apply for accreditation? The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) develops standards that highlight the essential elements for operating a high-quality certification program. Each program (e.g., Radiography, Sonography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging) needs to be accredited separately, and ARRT has been working toward this goal for each of the thirteen certifications we offer. As of today, Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Sonography, Breast Sonography, Vascular Sonography, and the Registered Radiologist Assistant programs have all earned that honor. ARRT is proud to offer gold standard examinations, and accreditation through NCCA is one of the ways that we demonstrate our commitment to maintaining quality certification programs.

Accreditation, like all things at ARRT, relies on support from our hardworking volunteers. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) play a vital role in meeting many of the standards outlined by NCCA, so we will be starting an article series where we discuss those standards that are most relevant to the average volunteer. Stay tuned; we will begin with Standard 13, Panel Composition, in September.
