What first prompted you to volunteer with ARRT?
ARRT sent me a letter stating they needed volunteers specifically for the Cardiac Interventional credential. This was particularly interesting to me as I had not previously known how the process worked.
When did you start volunteering with ARRT?
I started volunteering in August of 2023.
What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?
I have been an item writer for the past year, and I would like to continue in different roles as they become available in the future.
What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?
I have enjoyed gaining knowledge about how the ARRT develops examinations. This knowledge is helpful to me as I am also an educator for a JRCERT-accredited program.
If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?
I would encourage more technologists to volunteer; we are the experts of our modalities. Our field constantly evolves, and new ideas/items can be created by new volunteers.
What do you like to do when you are not volunteering with ARRT?
I enjoy being with my young family of four. I have a daughter who is 6 years old and a son who is 3 years old. We like fishing, boating, and hiking together.
The Cardiac Interventional Radiography Exam Development Coordinator, Jennifer Edwards, says: "Derry attended ARRT's Item Writer Workshop last year and has been a very engaged writer ever since. Writing exam questions is NOT easy, and many writers will produce less and less over time. Not Derry! Not only does he consistently submit items, but they are also across a broad range of topics that require the candidate to use higher level reasoning. He is also proactive in attaching a note of explanation to items he thinks I may question. I really appreciate this time-saving communication. Derry is an asset to the profession, and I look forward to working with him in the future!"
