What first prompted you to volunteer with the ARRT?

I had been a technologist for about twenty years but had never been involved. I started teaching and realized the importance of giving back to a profession that I love.

When did you start volunteering with ARRT?

What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?

I started by volunteering for item writing for the radiology exam. If you are an educator, I highly recommend this. The science that goes into item writing was enlightening.

Then I branched out to R.R.A. Essay Grading, R.R.A. Standard Setting, and now the R.R.A. Exam. I also worked with the ARRT for the pursuit of licensing of Radiology Technologists in Nevada.

This would not have happened without the ARRT support.

What did you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?

Since volunteering with the ARRT, I have learned so much. I truly value the lessons I have learned along the way and the people I have had the opportunity to meet.

If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT what would that be?

Start volunteering early in your career. You will gain some valuable insight and meet many friends along the way. The time investment will be worth it, and you will gain valuable insight about your profession.

What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?

I started going to college later in life since I went to a hospital program, so it feels like I just go to school.

Outside of that I like to spend time with my family, especially my grandchildren.

I also like action movies and baking. Chocolate is my favorite food group.

The Registered Radiologist Assistant Exam Development Coordinator, Ann Miller, says: "Mary has been an awesome volunteer. As both an educator and an R.R.A., Mary's experience and knowledge has been so very valuable. She has been such an asset not only to the R.R.A. Essay Grading but in our transition from essay grading to the new case study portion of the R.R.A. examination."
