What first prompted you to volunteer with ARRT?

I had decided to volunteer with ARRT when I was asked by the organization to contribute. Being approached made me realize how I could give back to my professional community. I also saw it as an opportunity to help uphold the high standards of our field and ensure future technologists have the same foundation for excellence.

When did you start volunteering with ARRT?

I started volunteering in February 2021.

What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?

My volunteer efforts have been exclusively within the CT exam committee.

What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?

I enjoy the ability to collaborate with passionate professionals who, while all having different perspectives and backgrounds within the profession, are all dedicated to ensuring the integrity, quality and fairness of the CT exam.

Also, the ARRT staff does an exceptional job of clearly explaining committee meeting tasks. Their ability to run meetings efficiently while fostering collaboration and open communication has made my volunteer experience seamless and enjoyable.

If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?

My advice would be to embrace the opportunity with an open mind and willingness to learn. Volunteering with ARRT is not only a chance to give back to the profession, but a chance to gain valuable insights into the processes that shape our field while gaining valuable perspectives from different radiologic professionals across the country.

What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?

When not working or volunteering, I enjoy exploring my surroundings, which are ever-changing as a traveling technologist. But mostly you can find me chasing good vibes at concerts, fresh air on outdoor adventures, or endorphins at the gym.

Jennifer Edwards, the Assessment Development Coordinator for CT, says, "Sydney is a dedicated, focused, and engaged CT Exam committee member. She has attended every meeting in her term thus far, already accruing an impressive 112 hours of volunteer time! Her passion for the profession is evident as she routinely says, '...but do we need to know this to do our job?' while reviewing test questions. By doing so, Syndey's contributions and expertise help ensure the exam is tailored to entry-level practice. Since Sydney is a dual-modality technologist and is also MR certified and registered, I hope to see her participate on other committees in the future."
