The Radiation Therapy Exam Development Coordinator, Sarah Poirier, says:

"Virali is a very engaged volunteer who is passionate about our profession. She has been a great addition to the Radiation Therapy Exam Committee and has recently been writing items. It's been a pleasure working with her as she is kind and respectful. I appreciate the expertise and depth of knowledge she adds during our discussions."

What first prompted you to volunteer with the ARRT?

My passion for education in Radiation Therapy has long been a driving force for me. I have been involved in teaching Radiation Therapy students since 2015 in various roles. Upon assuming the position of program director in 2019, I sought to deepen my understanding of ARRT content specification and exam development. As I delved into research, I became more acquainted with it. There is no more effective way to gain insight into the profession and its standards than through volunteering.

When did you start volunteering with ARRT?

I have dedicated my time to volunteering with ARRT since late 2022. I aim to sustain this commitment and give back to the profession that holds my deepest affection.

What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?

I am on Radiation Therapy Exam Committee, Item Reviewer, and an Item Writer

What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?

This is a challenging question as all aspects of volunteering has been rewarding. My first exam committee meeting took place in Minneapolis, offering a valuable chance to connect with fellow committee members and ARRT staff in person. Their warmth and hospitality were evident making the experience very positive. Volunteering not only allows for learning and giving back but also facilitates networking with like-minded radiation therapists who share parallel passion for the field. Though subsequent meetings have transitioned to a virtual platform, the experience remains fulfilling and gratifying. Each meeting provides new insight into ARRT and its processes, fostering continuous learning and growth.

If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?

Volunteering is the best way to give back to our profession. Through volunteering I have come to appreciate the immense effort and commitment of those who have volunteered before me, underscoring the invaluable nature of our profession. Additionally, this experience has offered a significant opportunity to grasp the intricacies and significance of various components of the registry examination structure. I highly advocate for volunteering for ARRT to all my fellow Radiation Therapists. Even if you are not directly involved in education, it is a great way to contribute to our profession.

What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?

In my leisure hours, I cherish spending quality time with my family. Every moment shared with them brings me immense joy. Over the weekends, I find solace and focus through dancing-a favorite past time of mine. Additionally, I indulge in cooking Indian food, which I find calming especially with some music while I cook.
