What first prompted you to volunteer with the ARRT?
I first wanted to volunteer with the ARRT as a newly certified Radiologist Assistant. I saw an informational email and thought it interesting to see how the tests were created and formulated. I wanted to use my newly earned degree to help develop the exam content and hopefully assist the profession in this way.
When did you start volunteering with ARRT?
I first started volunteering in 2010 once I obtained my master's degree and was certified as a Registered Radiologist Assistant.
What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?
To date, I have volunteered on the fluoroscopy exam committee, the practice standards for the RRA, and have been an item writer for multiple years.
What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?
I enjoy the networking that comes with volunteering. Several people I have met have become good friends through my years in the profession. We know mutual people as well. It makes the field of radiology feel smaller when you see who each other knows.
I also enjoy seeing the people from all over the country come together to work and create educational material for the betterment of the profession.
If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?
I would say do it. You will meet some great people and you will add to the profession. Networking is a great thing to have in the radiology field.
What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?
When I'm not working as a Radiologist Assistant or volunteering with the ARRT, I enjoy being outdoors. I love fly fishing and spending time with my family.
The Registered Radiologist Assistant Exam Development Coordinator, Ann Miller, says: "Wes is an awesome volunteer. He has been a valuable asset in many ways. From when he was a newly certified R.R.A. on the Fluoroscopy Exam committee to most recently in our transition from the essay portion to the case study portion of the R.R.A. Exam. Our item writers provide real world content for our exam committees to use. We really appreciate all of the hard work it takes to create good content. Thank you Wes!"
