Michele Sisell has been an item writer for Breast Sonography.
What first prompted you to volunteer with the ARRT?
"I have been an educator since 2005 and an independent breast imaging consultant since 2018 and I always found myself trying to learn more and striving to understand how I can better deliver the material to my students. I was introduced to the idea of becoming a volunteer for the ARRT by a colleague and thought what better way to get those answers then to become a part of the process!"
When did you start volunteering with ARRT?
"This was my first-year volunteering for the ARRT and hope to continue for many more to come!"
What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?
"This was my first-year volunteering, and I was given the opportunity to be an item writer for breast sonography. This gave me the opportunity to develop questions for future breast sonography exams. In 2023 I will be a part of a committee that will help re-develop the content outline for future exams. I am so excited for this opportunity!"
What did you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?
"When I had my first meeting it was still virtual. Even so, I enjoyed the chance to interact with others that have the same passion for leadership and education. Volunteering for the ARRT this past year has been very rewarding and has even created growth in my own career path."
If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT what would that be?
"Absolutely do it! Especially if you are an educator, this is an opportunity to better understand the material and the most effective way to deliver it to your students. The ARRT faculty are helpful and friendly! If you are like me and want to be a part of guiding future technologists, sign up now! I hope to continue to volunteer for different committees for as long as I can!"
What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?
"I love warm weather, sunshine and a good book! Most of all I love my family time with my 3 sons and husband. Everything I do is to show them you can be successful in whatever you put your heart and mind to! Every road and path we take can open new opportunities! Volunteering created an opportunity to be a part of guiding others to a successful career and that's what I love to do!"
Shelley, the Breast Sonography EDC says, "Michele has been fantastic to work with, providing ARRT with some excellent items for future examinations. She has been attentive to the direction and guidance given in ARRT item writing style and I can tell that she tries very hard with every item she submits to send us the best items possible. I'm looking forward to working with Michelle on the Breast Sonography Practice Analysis committee later this year."
From ARRT, we thank you for all that you do Michele!
