Kelley Olsen has volunteered on the Breast Sonography Exam and Standard Setting committees, and has volunteered as an item writer for Mammography.
What first prompted you to volunteer with ARRT?
When I was asked to consider volunteering for the ARRT I couldn't have been more honored. I hold the ARRT in such high regard. To serve my accrediting body through volunteer activities is just another way I can continue to connect with my peers around the country. I enjoy problem solving, case studies, and being challenged to see outside my own perspective. Volunteering has been a great fit!
When did you start volunteering with ARRT?
March 2018
What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?
I have operated as an item writer for the modality of mammography, I have attended committee meetings for exam review, and I am currently an item reviewer for Breast Sonography.
What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?
I truly enjoy the opportunity to view multiple modality workflow variences through other professionals' experiences. Being able to converse with other technologists, radiologists, and physicists provides incredible insight on our country's view and experiences in radiology. It is facisnating to hear the different workflows and protocols used throughout varying departments. One thing we all have in common is what it means to provide excellence to our patients. The ARRT volunteers undoubtedly have their hearts into their work. It has been a wonderful platform to share, create, and have productive conversations in a safe place with brilliant minds.
If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?
Do it! It is such a wonderful opportunity to continue to sharpen your skills as a professional, to meet new and interesting people, and to provide value to communities across the United States. Wherever you are at in your journey in radiology, your voice is needed. The ARRT does an amazing job supporting you along the way.
What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?
In my free time I enjoy going on walks with my amazing husband and two pups. I enjoy reading a good mystery novel and sipping on one of the 100 different kinds of tea that live in my cupboard. I love fishing, gardening, being outside, crocheting, flow arts, and exploring new book stores. I'm blessed to live close to my parents, so we enjoy going out for coffee and garage saleing for a sweet deal when the weather is nice.
The Breast Sonography Exam Development Coordinator, Shelley Coutu, says: "Kelley is such a pleasure to work with on the Breast Sonography Exam Committee. She has excellent knowledge of Breast Sonography and is such a great contributor. She is always upbeat and delightful in her committee interactions, and does her best to seek the opinions of others.
