If you have participated in one of the ARRT's Task Analysis surveys, no doubt you noticed that towards the end of the survey, we ask you various workplace and demographics questions. This can lead to the obvious question, "Why is ARRT asking about demographics? What are they using my demographic information for?" The purpose of this post is to address these questions.
First, it is important to note that ARRT keeps all information you share with us on our Task Analysis surveys strictly confidential. ARRT does not share your individual responses outside of our Psychometrics department.
ARRT staff uses the information you provide to evaluate trends across the USA in workplaces by looking at aggregated information (e.g., averages, modes, etc.). ARRT then gathers the aggregated information into a report to share with our Practice Analysis committees, so they can discuss various workplace practices and trends. For example, committees might discuss differences in task frequency based on the shift a registered technologist is working, the size of their facility, or other demographic factors. These conversations help us understand what tasks registered technologists are performing in different practices, and how differences might influence what ARRT should include on a discipline's exam.
By participating in Task Analysis surveys and answering demographic questions, you provide us with vital information that helps us accomplish our mission to promote high standards of patient care by recognizing qualified individuals in medical imaging, interventional procedures, and radiation therapy.
