Test questions that do not count towards a candidate's score are called pilot items. We incorporate these among the scored items on the exam to gather data on their performance without impacting the examinees' scores. Our Psychometrics team analyzes the pilot items by evaluating their difficulty and their ability to differentiate between high and low performers. Statistically well-performing items can be included in future exams, while we revise or discard poorly performing items.

Adding pilot items strategically maintains and improves the exam's quality, fairness, and relevance. This approach allows us to continuously develop and validate new items, ensuring the exam remains a reliable tool for assessing candidates' knowledge and skills.

We will add 10 items to the examination and increase the time to take it by 20 minutes. Please visit the ARRT's website to review the updated Magnetic Resonance Imaging Content Specifications to help you prepare for the examination.
