What first prompted you to volunteer with ARRT?

I wanted to get involved when I entered the profession, and I have continued to volunteer over the past few years.

When did you start volunteering with ARRT?

I began in 2024 and want to continue into the foreseeable future.

What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?

I am on the Radiologist Assistant Practice Analysis committee and am working towards being an Item Writer.

What did you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?

Being involved in very important work for the profession is a great feeling. My overall goal when I became an RA was to advocate for our amazing career.

If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?

Do it! It is great to have a role in shaping the future of your career field. We must continue to advocate for our role in healthcare as it is absolutely an essential part of the healthcare team.

What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?

I truly love my job as RA and enjoy going to work every day. I love spending time with my wife and two children. Sports, exercise, and family are my passions along with Radiology of course.

Ann Miller, the Assessment Development Coordinator for Registered Radiologist Assistant (RRA), says, "Derek is very engaged in his volunteering with ARRT. He is currently part of the RRA Practice Analysis Committee. The RRA Practice Analysis Committee not only reviews the current documents but brings their knowledge of what is going on in the field to create the surveys. You can see Derek's passion and advocacy for the RRA during the survey creation and discussions. The surveys will be going out in January and the committee will review the results this summer. I am looking forward to hearing Derek's and the committee's thoughts on the data and what changes they think we should consider. I am also looking forward to helping Derek with the last part of his training to become an item writer."
