What first prompted you to volunteer with ARRT?

I started volunteering because it was a way to make a meaningful impact on the future of the oncology field. By giving my time and expertise, I have the opportunity to support the next generation of professionals, help shape industry standards, and contribute to advancements that ultimately improve patient care.

When did you start volunteering with ARRT?

I began volunteering with the ARRT in the fall of 2023. Since then, it has been an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to contribute to the profession, collaborate with other dedicated professionals, and help shape the future of oncology care.

What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?

I have served on the Exam Review and Item Writing Committees, where I've gained a deep appreciation for the meticulous process behind developing standardized tests. Through this work, I've seen firsthand how much time, expertise, and dedication go into ensuring these exams uphold the integrity of our field while remaining fair, relevant, and reflective of the ever-evolving landscape of oncology.

What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?

Volunteering with the ARRT allows me to give back to a field that has given so much to me, while also staying engaged with emerging trends, collaborating with passionate colleagues, and ensuring excellence in the profession for years to come.

If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would that be?

If you're interested in volunteering with the ARRT, I highly encourage you to take the leap! In many ways, this experience is a form of mentorship-it's an opportunity to give back to the profession by helping shape the future of the field. Whether you're reviewing exams, writing test questions, or contributing in other ways, your work directly impacts the next generation of professionals. You'll gain invaluable insight into the credentialing process, collaborate with like-minded experts, and play a role in maintaining the high standards of our profession. Plus, it's a rewarding way to stay engaged, continue learning, and make a lasting difference.

What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?

When I'm not working or volunteering with ARRT, you'll most likely find our family outdoors, embracing every adventure that comes our way. We love to travel-whether it's chasing the sun or hitting the slopes in the snow. Our two boys (10 and 13) are deeply involved in the community and sports, keeping us on the go. We often joke that we're just glorified taxi drivers in this season of life, but we wouldn't trade it for anything. We're soaking up every moment because, as they say, the days are long, but the years are short!

Sarah Poirer, the Assessment Development Coordinator for Radiation Therapy, says: "Stephanie is a pleasure to work with, bringing great energy and dedication to the profession. Her years of experience and ability to initiate valuable discussions greatly benefit the exam committee. As an item writer, she provides much-needed content tailored to entry-level therapists, a challenging task she handles with ease. I truly enjoy having her as a volunteer and can always count on her. Thank you for everything, Stephanie!"
