What first prompted you to volunteer with ARRT?
After receiving an invitation by mail to volunteer with ARRT following my completion of the CT certification exam, I thought, why not? I saw it as an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in patient care while continuing to grow professionally. Honesty and devotion to patients are core values of mine, and I strongly feel that volunteering with ARRT aligns with those values. Contributing to the certification process felt like a way to support both the profession and the patients we serve.
When did you start volunteering with ARRT?
I began volunteering in August 2018 as an item writer in Fluoroscopy.
What type of volunteering have you done with ARRT?
I have contributed as an item writer in Fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI. I am now honored to serve on the CT Exam Committee.
What do you enjoy the most about being a volunteer with ARRT?
What I enjoy most is knowing that I am contributing to patient safety on a nationwide scale. By helping develop exam content, I am indirectly supporting the education and competency of new professionals entering the field.
I love learning new things and sharing knowledge with others. Volunteering continuously challenges me to stay current and deepen my understanding of imaging principles. Volunteers play a meaningful role in training future technologists, which ultimately improves patient safety and patient experience.
If you could give advice to someone who is interested in volunteering with ARRT, what would it be?
Don't hesitate if you feel you may not be knowledgeable enough. Be confident that you have something valuable to contribute. Volunteering will expand your knowledge, deepen your understanding of technology and physics, and strengthen your confidence in daily clinical practice. It also helps build your resume, enhances professional recognition, and makes everyday hospital work feel more intuitive. Most importantly, it allows you to provide even better care and service to your patients.
What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering with ARRT?
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my wife. We enjoy traveling, exploring new restaurants, and simply spending quality time together. I also have a passion for music: I play guitar and bass, and I enjoy writing and recording my own songs. The creative process is something I truly value and find deeply fulfilling.
Matt Korpi, the Assessment Development Coordinator for Computed Tomography, says: "Julien stands out as one of the most genuine and kind-hearted individuals I have encountered. His unwavering passion and commitment to the medical imaging community are truly inspiring. Always radiating positivity, he enhances the atmosphere of our committee meetings with his energetic presence. Since joining ARRT in 2018, he has contributed significantly to Item Writing and is now an integral member of the CT exam committee, where he uses his expertise in CT to refine our exam content. We are grateful for all that Julien has contributed and eagerly anticipate continuing our collaboration with him in the future."
