In a recent post, we talked about what is accomplished during a Practice Analysis (PA). One of the key parts of the PA is the task analysis. The task analysis provides an updated picture of the job that an entry-level technologist may be asked to do. The task analysis survey gives you an opportunity to describe your work in a unique way-with survey bubbles. This involves building a task analysis survey with the assistance of a PA committee, collecting information with the task analysis survey in the field, and interpreting the responses. At the end of the practice analysis, the ARRT will publish the full Practice Analysis Reports.

By surveying the field of expectations of entry level technologists in the target discipline, the task analysis becomes an integral part of maintaining the ARRT's ability to set fair and reasonable expectations of candidates entering the profession. This forms the basis of the examination in The ARRT Equation for Excellence. It also helps ensure that ARRT credentials mean that someone who holds an ARRT credential is prepared to enter the practice with current knowledge and skills.
